White was parked in his police car on the west shoulder of Texas 114, clearing traffic for an oncoming police chase York was involved in when the accident occured.Prior to the crash, York had led officers on a chase that began about
2:30 p.m. on Hale Street in Decatur. He was driving a white pickup, and from
Hale Street, he drove southbound in northbound lanes of U.S. 287. Officers resumed the chase in Decatur following York south on Farm Road 51. He went through Paradise and continued west on Texas 114 to Bridgeport. The accident happened about 45 minutes after the chase began. Texas 114 will be shut down until approximately 10 p.m. to recreate the accident scene. I am very upset about this. I heard about it just shortly after it happen. It greatly saddens me. Please keep this family and other officers in your thoughts.
