We had a player hurt a few weeks ago. It was during our first game. We played Jacksboro. There is a boy that plays for Jacksboro that seems to be hurting alot of players. He aims for the knees. He has injured (season ending injuries) at least 3 boys in the last 3 years. Usually one in every game gets hurt enough to come off the field for the game.
The mother of the hurt player wrote a letter to the Index. She wrote about how the boy was doing this intentionally and the coaches were telling him to do it. She proceeded to say how her son was the star of the team. How he played both sides of the ball and when the ran the ball he got 20-30 yards and then they would give it to someone else and they would lose the yards. She talked about her boy worked out and how her husband was a coach and how there was no ice or medical personnel to check on him there.
The Jacksboro team wasnt planning on coming to the games on Saturday because of this letter. They only showed up after getting a phone call. She has no place saying that about the other coaches. Has she ever heard them tell a player to hurt someone intentionally? Has she ever seen them practice to hurt someone? No. I dont think any coach would say something like that to a child. Does something need to be done about the child that continues to hurt other players? Yes, but someone has to bring it to the commissioners before they can do anything about it. I have my opinion about what needs to happen but it depends on answers to other questions.
I feel that she owes the players on our team an apology. They work their butts off every week. They play hard. The 3 games they have won, have been won without her son. He is not and was not the star of the team.
As far as not having ice or medical personnel, where did she get that ice from? Thats right the concession stand, about 15 feet (if that) from the field. The same place that others get ice for injuries. The head coach of our team (the one her son is on) is the medical guy she says wasnt there, but when your husband and you take you kid off the field and away from him he cant exactly look at him and check him out.
This team mom didnt show up to our game...I have one thing to say about that..chicken shit. Oh yea did I mention she asked to keep her name out of the paper. As team mom I refrained from writing my own letter because mine would not be anonymous and I am certain would cause a rift in our team. The team doesnt deserve that.
I am angry and embarrassed by her letter. Our coaches require the players to be respectful. Respectful of other players, teams, coaches, parents, and teachers. Require it. If they see/hear of any disrespect they are punished (with running or work outs) Her letter showed just the opposite.
I am not saying that something doesnt need to be done about the boy injuring other players but she went about it the wrong way and she bashed other children while doing it. Two of which happen to be mine.
One more thing...how is she going to call out one kid (she gave his team and jersey number) but not give her own kids name. She has effectively made it where when her son does get to start playing again that her son wont get to play in the game during play offs against Jacksboro. How can he, if he gets hurt she will say they did it intentionally just because he is the best or because she wrote that letter.
